Virat Kohli, Sunil Chhetri, Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, Minimol Abraham and Gurinder Singh. Throw these names in front of any kid or parent in India and you will not be surprised to know that most of us in all likeness will not know who the last 2 names are.
Cricket is easily the most followed and played sport in India. Close your eyes and pick a place in India and you will be sure to find a group of kids playing cricket be it in a large ground or the tiniest gullies. The gifting or purchase of a cricket bat at a very early age is an indirect form of grassroots infrastructure that our parents or friends give us. Planting these seeds at a very formative age is a significant reason why cricket enjoys the popularity it does in India and why India’s cricket infrastructure is far more developed compared to other sports.
How can we bring this early stage grassroots development into football, volley and basketball in addition to cricket? What are the current respected sport developmental programs in India lacking? What is the gap that we seek to address? Can we actually make sport a lucrative career option for kids?
Lazarus Sports India (LSI) spawned when we sought to answer these questions. The name Lazarus indicates ‘To Rise from Nothing’ wants to change people’s perceptions about grassroot development of sports and provide a path towards holistic development and excellence in the sport and extensive support towards making a professional career in sport.
Schools in India which are the biggest melting pot for integrated academic and sporting development often have classified physical activity and coaching under the generic umbrella of Physical Training (PT) or Physical Education (PE)
This approach often results in focused sporting development coming in only at the age of 13 unlike in Europe where this development begins as early as 4 years old. Professional sportsmen springing up in Europe have long been associated with extremely strong grassroot programs at all levels of education.
Lazarus aims to bring this approach to India by means of a highly curated, professional and scientific approach towards grassroot sporting development of kids both inside and outside schools into athletes. This is implemented in an environment that focuses on holistic sporting development and fun complemented by mental health.
LSI’s expertise in grassroots development stems from years of research in sports science and biomechanical studies. Our highly flexible, modern and curated coaching program (For Age Groups 4-60) is designed by highly qualified coaches with backgrounds in grassroot development, sports science and detailed knowledge of the human body.
It is centered around high performance which is tightly integrated with strength and conditioning, injury prevention and management while being advised by nutritional experts.
Lazarus complements peak physical conditioning with the presence of sports psychologists who ensure the mental health and well-being of the kids who are part of the program. This is a highly evolving and flexible program that incorporates the latest in sports science and conditioning to ensure that the kids in the program automatically have an edge over the competition.
LSI also realised that the CoVID-19 pandemic can cause friction in the development of the child and addressed this gap by bringing an online conditioning program that keeps the health of the athlete on track so that when they step out onto the field, the body is in prime condition to take on the development program on the field.
Lazarus pushes this development to the next level for those interested in taking sport as a full-time career. Using our tie ups to professional sport teams, kids have an aspiration to aim for during their sporting development and provide a closure to their sporting journey.
