Lazarus is a company that is being built on age-old friendships with a strong sense of trust. For us to come into our official existence during the lockdown period was unfortunate; in the sense that a sports and fitness company needs to be where the sports are, i.e, on the pitch, in outdoor centres and in sports facilities.
October was truly the month of beginning and establishment for us. The first edition of the Lazarus Cup, our first ever physical event, took place over four Sundays in October 2020. It also happened to be Bengaluru’s first ever football tournament after the lockdown. It was hosted at Kreeda, Sarjapur, who were extremely hospitable, kind and trusted us with our work.
While there were small things that went wrong, as things generally have the tendency of doing so in events, we’re really happy to say that we were successful in achieving what we wanted to.
Firstly, we brought players together to play the game they love the most. It was a joy to witness sport happen again in front of us after the dry spell of the lockdown.
Secondly, conducting and managing an entire tournament during such a widespread pandemic was a meticulously demanding ordeal. However, with the collaboration and the patience of the players, we safely got through it all.
Thirdly, the tournament effectively stuck to its time for most of the part. It is, and you would agree if you have participated in local tournaments, an annoyingly irritating feature of most tournaments to have frequent delays.
And lastly, we were able to do our bit in contributing to the society by donating a part of the proceeds to charity.
Football, this way, brought us all together. Our interns, format heads and the event management team worked as a group for this tournament to essentially put Lazarus on the map of Bengaluru. In the myriad of conversations, jokes and jobs, our budding team found a teamwork that worked for us.
It is this sense of togetherness and community that we believe sports brings to us.
We learnt that we keep learning something new about sport with each time we experience it and so, to see everyone playing out there taught us a lot about our service and our reminded us of our goals.
We hope to contribute to sports in this way and we hope to broaden our horizons while doing so.
